Real Salt Lake Players Check Out for Season

Last night I attended the last media event of the season.  It was checkout time for the players.

Javier Morales and how he felt about the season:  We were very close to winning the game (LA).  This team is tough it was a long year with lots of injuries and problems.  The team kept going and we gave it our best.  I credit LA for a good game and I look forward to the next one.  Being qualified for CONCACAF again is a gift and an award for the future.  We are sad about the last game and will try to improve this.

The fans were unbelievable this year, one of the best in the MLS.  That first evening I came back was unbelievable.  Thanks to everyone, without your support I would not have been able to do it.

Javi is going to spend some time in Italy with family and then go back to Argentina for a while.

more after the jump:

Ned Grabavoy- We were short of the championship game by one game.  Everyone was upset.  But we have our core group for the next few years and will have other chances.  We had a lot of players missing because of suspensions, injuries and we all dealt with it with no finger pointing.  We were not full strength most of the season but we made it to the playoffs to play for the championship.

Qualifying for CONCACAF was a huge goal at the end of the season.  It was important for us to wrap it up in third place so we could qualify for CONCACAF.

I would like to say congratulations to Fabian Espindola and his wife Barbara who are expecting a baby boy on May 1st.  They don’t have a name picked out yet, but are very excited!  They plan on spending most of the off season at home in Argentina.  Fabi would like to thank all the fans for their support and hopes to see you all next year.

Jamison Olave- We lost the fight, but now we have the revenge factor and get to participate in CONCACAF again.  Our team is very strong.  Some players got appointed to National teams and we did a good job finishing in 3rd place and qualifying for CONCACAF again.  We lost the final, but still did a very good job.  Thank you for your support.  Seeing  16-20,000 people in the stadium every game is very important for the team.

It was a very difficult year but a very good one too.  The final CONCACAF game, the MLS final, injuries and expulsions.  I made a strong recovery with the help of the doctor.  I really wanted to play in the LA game.  LA is very dangerous in the midfield.  I played in pain but I had to do it.  It was a good year, not excellent but it was good.

Yodany Alvarez-I was nervous at my first game here, which was against Henry.  I didn’t know what was going to happen.  But it was a good game.  I look forward to working hard.

Nick Rimando- in the last game we came out great and at the half we were even.  Even after the PK we came back battling and at the half felt good.  Then fatigue and injuries caught up with us.  There was a great cross from Beckham that ended in a goal and we ended up chasing the game. They got chances; we had some but couldn’t put them away.  It was a tough game to swallow, we have to finish chances like that or we can’t continue to grow.

There were huge up and downs this year but we are back in the tournament (CONCACAF).  We had a chance for four trophies and got none.

------

Apparently we only have to wait until January when most of the players will report back to work for the season.
