Real Salt Lake vs. Los Angeles Galaxy - Western Conference Final - match thread

Well now it is down to which team will face the Houston Dynamo at MLS Cup?  Houston despite the first half loss of Brad Davis to injury were able to comeback and get a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City and will represent the Eastern Conference at MLS Cup.

We are about 90 minutes from the kick of the Western Conference final and still nobody is sure what the RSL line up will be, thanks to the Tom Payne (president of the LA Galaxy we know their lineup will be:

Josh Saunders, Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalez, AJ DeLaGarza, Todd Dunivant, Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Juninho, Mike Magee, Chad Barrett and Robbie Keane.

The only change there is Juninho coming back to the starting XI after his suspension and Chris Brichall going to the bench.

As soon as I know the RSL starting XI, I will post it along with various match updates.  Don't forget the match is on ESPN in HD, on ESPN3 online and if you don't have access to a TV you can listen in via ESPN KALL 700

Still waiting

Yes we are still waiting on the final RSL lineup to be published, Fox put up something on TV (missed it) but I hear they have it wrong.

RSL Starting XI

In a real surprise to me, no Nat Borchers. Here it is: Rimando, Russell, Olave, Schuler, Wingert, Williams, Beckerman, Morales, Johnson, Espindola, and Saborio.

Bench: Borchers, Reynish, Grabovoy, Gil, Y. Alvarez, Beltran, Paulo Jr.

Very surprising

Wondering if they will split halves or something… Glad that we have at least one of them in back!

Are you excited?

just over 30 minutes to go, and I have to say I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation for this one. You have to think the emotional lift of Olave back, and Borchers on the bench will give a lot of confidence to the RSL roster.

Match time

Oh my the entire season rests on what happens tonight, have to expect that we will see a great effort by RSL who are looking for silverware this year and know they deserve some.

Holy crap

A soft PK call, I say that based on previous contact on RSL corner and other set pieces, but LA converts and Real Salt Lake then come right back and get a goal off a corner kick so we are tied 1-1 in the 27th minute of the match. So far RSL has dominated possession, and looked the better team, while LA has had to counter attack and play long balls.

This is going to be fun.

I know

I said I’d be supporting RSL’s opposition, but now I’m acftually sat here watching I still don’t want LA to win.

Terrible penalty call.

i don't think

the penalty made a “blind bit of difference.”

halftime

So we are seeing the match open up more, but I think that RSL has been the better team for most of the half, as they hold a slight edge on possession (53.3% to 46.7%) have better passing accuracy 71% to 69%. Both teams with 5 shots and two on goal, both teams with a shot of the post.

Exciting and exactly what was expected as both of these teams are playing up to the hype. I think we have yet to see someone step up and take charge on either side, this match is waiting on someone to do the incredible and I am going to say that it might just be Kyle Beckerman, that last show was huge.

Sticking with my 2-1 RSL winning in regulation, that is if we can keep the officiating from being the deciding factor, right now RSL neutralized a soft PK call, so now it is time for RSL to step up and take charge.

Great match up so far

Was watching it at my brother’s place till half time. He is a Galaxy fan. Was talking about how if Galaxy doesn’t start playing their style that they will lose. He honestly thought Beckerman put RSL up 2-1 at half time.

Wow

This turned crappy really quick.

by king.nothing on Nov 6, 2011 8:44 PM MST reply actions

not really

I will just say that LA got a great goal by Magee and Keane was class, a tough fought match and both sides could have had 2-3 more goals in this one. Exciting and action packed, don’t see Houston being able to beat LA for MLS Cup and I will be there to take pictures and bring you updates live from MLS Cup.

Some tough breaks tonight, similar to the reg season game against LAG that ended 2-1. LA’s good and I hate them.

So Now That Season Is Over

What additions/subtractions do you look to make for next year?

by king.nothing on Nov 6, 2011 9:20 PM MST reply actions

I’d like to upgrade the Andy Williams spot. He looked quite against SSFC in leg one but he’s just looked so old so many times this season.

I think we lose at least one player in

Expansion draft, probably 1-2 in Re-entry draft. I hope we work a deal to secure Yordany Alvarez, need to rework deal with Arturo Alvarez if we want to keep him

by denz on Nov 6, 2011 10:42 PM MST up reply actions

Dream scenario

We keep Yordany and Montreal takes Arturo in the expansion draft. PleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePleasePlease

this is crazy

but should rsl offload sabo? i know he was the leading scorer, but seems like most came from pks. but he was magical in the playoffs.

by exanteexpost on Nov 7, 2011 9:41 AM MST reply actions

He is a big game guy

I think the reality of the situation is that he is a guy who has trouble getting “up” for regular matches, but finds his form in the big games. I think there are a lot of strikers like that but it is something we at RSL aren’t used to, he is still one of the best target forwards in MLS and I think we are still figuring out how to best use him with our offense.

I wouldn’t look to unload him, as we have a good amount invested but for the goals produced per dollar spent he (like Fabi) are great bargains compared to most in MLS
