For Real Salt Lake Stat geeks -CONCACAF Coefficients

While I may like my stats, it appears that "TigerNavy" loves the numbers, check out his offering below(edit by rslsoapbox)

I think to make the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) more relevant, fans need to get behind some rankings (aka coefficients) and have a reason to cheer for their team or other MLS teams in the CCL.  Real Salt Lake is currently 16th in the most updated CCL coefficients.  More after the jump...

Star-divide

I didn't come up with this myself, but I found it at this site (http://www.hexagonalblog.com/2008/09/developing-concacaf-coefficients-part-2.html).  Using the below formulas, I have the current information updated through the semi-finals of this year's CCL (RSL's win over Columbus included).  These coefficients are an average over a 5 year period - 2006-2011 (similar to UEFA Coefficients).  I wanted to share and get your thoughts...

As an additional note, (16th) RSL will be facing (15th) Saprissa

Country Coefficient = [0.25*(Points in Preliminary Round + Bonus Points in Preliminary Round) + 1.0*(Points in Champions Cup/League + Bonus Points in Champions Cup/League)] / (Number of Teams)

but how is Seattle above LA already? and 20th in the region? we only have 2 years worth of games compared to the 5 years other teams have, and we didnt do that hot in CCL…

in CCL you did much better than LA

you at least qualified for the group stage, LA got beat bad by the Islanders in their qualifying. I also have to believe some credit for winning the US Open Cup the last two years is being figured in.

I get that fact, of la losing this year

but over the last 5 years we have more then most teams? And in the region? How are we 20th?
