Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman gets another call up for the USMNT
Kyle Beckerman was among 24 players called up by Jurgen Klinsmann for the pair of friendlies the US Has the first 10 days of September, I have heard rumor that he will not be playing in the Sept, 2nd match with Costa Rica but will be with the team for their trip to Belgium. Here is the full roster:
GOALKEEPERS (2): Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Tim Howard (Everton)
DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Edgar Castillo (Club America), Timmy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Zach Loyd (FC Dallas), Michael
Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls)
MIDFIELDERS (9): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Jeff Larentowicz (Colorado Rapids), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Jose Torres (Pachuca)
FORWARDS (4): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Teal Bunbury (Sporting Kansas City), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)
You can read more about the selections at ussoccer.com. This means that RSL will be without Will Johnson, Alvaro Saborio, Arturo Alvarez and possibly Jean Alexandre for the 9/3 match with Philly. I did hear rumor that Alvaro Saborio might be back for the Sept, 10th RSL match at Seattle, that would mean he wouldn't be playing in the match on the 9th when Costa Rica will take on Ecuador.
No matter how you look at it with all the injuries and now call ups, the next couple weeks are going to be brutal on RSL, hopefully some guys will step up and show that they can be counted on in hard times.

i knew we should have still played that match against philly when it was originally scheduled instead of postponing it. you almost wish these guys would turn down the call ups given that were coming into such an important time in the season. like you said hopefully some other players will step up in the absence of our international call ups.
I hate to say it...
But with all the injuries, now is the time to deny the call ups. Teams are not required to allow players to go for friendlies. European clubs deny them all the time and we are in the middle of a playoff race. It’s no time for your best players to be absent. I know we actually want them to play for international sides, but the whole point is to make the playoffs and at this point given our set backs we need every game.
Not all of these are friendlies
Canada, Haiti, and others are in their final matches of World Cup qualifying rounds. Jason has made it clear that he won’t deny a player a chance to represent his national team, which is something I respect greatly. Kyle and others made the decision for him to skip the match with Costa Rica and be available for the Philly match on the 3rd, but he will be traveling with the USMNT to Europe for their match against Belgium which will be a huge test for him and many of the players to see where they fit in the future plans of the team for World Cup qualifying.
As teams are successful their players get more attention from national teams, that is simply a part of life in soccer and I consider the callups a huge compliment to the players as well as the team.
Arturo Alvarez
While Alvarez could still end up with El Salvador next week, he wasn’t called up in the initial selections: http://www.fesfut.org.sv/actualidad.php?id_noticia=483
He could still appear, but I’d bet he stays at the club during the two international matches for El Salvador.
Oh, and Jurgen’s sure winning our hearts quickly!
