Best Goals of 2012 #8: Jonny Steele v. Toronto, April 28

Jonny Steele's stunner against Toronto FC in April comes in at number 8 on the top 10 goals countdown.

In the dying minutes at the Rio Tinto, Real Salt Lake, facing Toronto FC, looked destined for a draw. One brilliant moment of skill from Javier Morales - a sumptuous little flick, a moment of recognition from Kyle Beckerman, and a left-footed (what else?) strike from distance, and Jonny Steele found the back of the net.

Jonny Steele took his fair share of flak for some lackluster performances in the second half of the season, but this goal created a jaw-dropping moment at home. It was in a sense problematic that Steele scored two goals early in his Real Salt Lake career, as expectations skyrocketed for some, but the six points (earned in this match and the first against Portland) the Irishman helped bring to the club had a season-long impact - even with his not inconsiderable dip in form.

This goal is also notable for the celebration, which sees Steele's (ahem) wee friend Will Johnson hop on his back. (With that, I henceforth issue an apology for the use of 'wee'.) Steele may be gone, but this goal should live on.
