Real Salt Lake traded with Philadelphia Union for their 29th pick in the second round the MLS SuperDraft and selected Devon Sandoval from University of New Mexico. Real Salt Lake also surrendered their first two picks in the Supplemental Draft.

Sandoval is an interesting character in part because he has been described as a Steven Lenhart-style striker, which RSL fans might take some umbrage to.

Should he sign, Sandoval would perhaps serve as a like-for-like backup with forward Alvaro Saborio, who is expected to be absent with CONCACAF Gold Cup duties.

The MLS scouting report describes Sandoval as a "target player" and "extremely strong," as well as being "clever with a good first touch and nose for goal."

Those attributes are well and good, but he'll need to show he has what it takes to make it at the MLS level.

It is particularly interesting that Lagerwey and Kreis felt strongly enough to trade two supplemental picks to move up two spots in the draft.
