Gil scores penalty in US U-20s' 2-1 win over Haiti

Luis Gil played 77 minutes and converted a third-minute penalty as the U.S. Under-20s defeated Haiti 2-1 for the start of 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship play.

Gil, the most experienced senior professional in the squad, was involved in the buildup to the second goal as well. He did, however, miss other opportunities to score, but given the U.S. finished with a win, nobody will be too incredibly broken up about that.

Gil and the U-20s play again on Friday; they take on Costa Rica at 4:30 p.m. MT. A win there will see the U.S. through to the quarterfinals, while a draw will see them through if Haiti loses to Costa Rica tomorrow.

Should the U.S. make the quarterfinals, Gil will be very unlikely to make RSL's season opener against San Jose Earthquakes.

Gil has rarely been involved in preseason preparations with his club in 2013, having been involved with the U-20s off-and-on since the start of the year.
