Deal Done, MLS has a new CBA (updated with audio)

I am waiting on details as the MLS and MLSPU are setting up for a conference call (I will record it), but it looks like there is a new CBA.  Let the season start, let the fans travel, and hopefully both sides can get over the snide comments made by each other and the league can continue to grow.

stay tuned

A new 5 year deal has been signed, with a number of improvements. "the Don" is of course playing politics, which is what we expect.

High level points

  • more guaranteed contracts
  • move movement within league (notice not free agency)
  • better pay
Here is the official announcement of the CBA with Don Garber, Bob Foose, and Federal Mediator Cohen MLS CBA Announcement

and here is the main section of the Q&A  Q&A session

OK, I didn't catch this on audio, but it sounds like some type of reserve division will be coming back.  That, I believe is huge

So with the deal only be signed a short while ago a lot of the details haven't been announced even to the teams yet, that information will be coming out of the next hours and days.  I will try to keep everything up to date as often as I can before heading out to San Jose late next week for the first match of the Real Salt Lake defense of their 2009 MLS CUP Championship.

There is more going on today, like the RSL vs. TFC match in the CCC and the DCU vs. Charleston Battery (we need Charleston to win to give us a chance at winning the challenge for a second straight year).
