OK, first let me say it is very, very nice to finally get a RSL match picked right, right result, right score, and even the right sub at the right time. I don't think it was our best match as a team, but I do love that RSL still has that fight in them that no matter what happens we are going to fight until the end.
In the official post match quotes the list is mighty short:
Real Salt Lake Head Coach Jason Kreis
On the match:
It was a huge objective and we put a huge amount of emphasis on trying to get a shutout out here. I think the way we started this year on the road, we wanted to be a team that would be a team that would be extremely difficult to break down when we play on the road. I wanted to make that the first and foremost objective for our team, so I was really disappointed to get that goal in the second half and the manner in which it was scored, too.
Apart from that, I thought we were difficult, we defended really well for the 80 minutes out of the 90, so some positives but also, we need to be fairly critical of giving that goal the way we did. But then the reaction after that, extremely pleased. Fabian comes on and makes the difference, and we walk away with three points, so that's great.
Real Salt Lake defender Chris Wingert
On scoring his first career goal in league play:
"I just told those other guys that I hope it's not another seven years before my next one. It felt great. I feel like I've always been kind of an attack-minded player, even when I'm playing defense. When I first came into the league I played midfield and I used to get a lot more chances, and I've hit a few posts and I have, I think, 3 or 4 goals in the MLS but just not in regular season games... so on the stat sheet it still says zero. So it's nice to put a number next to that."
On getting the win on the road:
"The goal wouldn't have meant anything if we had lost. It would have been a terrible feeling, so credit to Fabian and the team for hanging in there. Even when they scored late, we felt like we had the better of play and we deserved to win, so it's just a great feeling right now and a relief to get another three points on the road. Regardless of home or away, we just want to keep earning points and we've done a pretty good job of that."
I will be doing a more complete match review later today.
