Major League Soccer - Week 10 Previews and Picks

MLS Logo 2
MLS Logo 2

Well the midweek saw 5 matches that featured MLS teams and I picked 4 of the 5 right, a vast improvement over my 2 correct picks from last weekend (my worse performance of the year), hopefully my weekend picks will be much more accurate. There are 6 MLS matches on Saturday and another 2 matches on Sunday, so let's get started:

Los Angeles Galaxy at Montreal Impact - 2:00pm MT - MLS Live & Direct Kick

For years some people wondered if or when the wheels would come off of the Galaxy 3 ring circus, and I think that one would have to say the first 1/3 of this season fits that description. Coming off finally reaching their goal of another MLS Cup, they not only brought back the band but added a guy like Edson Buddle to the Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and David Beckham shows, but lowly Toronto FC crushed their Champions League dreams and now they have meandered to a 3-5-1 start and they look very uninspired at time. On the other side of the pitch is expansion side Montreal, who each week are looking more and more like a solid unit. They have gone beyond being a group of talented player to where they are playing like a team and it is paying off as they are 3-1-1 in their last 5. It should be interesting to see how LA does on the turf in Montreal, but I have to pick this a 2-2 draw.

D.C. United at Houston Dynamo - 2:30pm MT - NBC Sports

For the Houston Dynamo the end of a very long journey is in sight, they left San Jose because they couldn't get a stadium and even after winning titles in Houston it is just now that they will finally get their own place to call home. This isn't a flashy team, they are a solid team, they play defense first and look for opportunities to counter and don't give them too many set pieces or you could be in real trouble. However if you get past the hype of a new stadium, the story may be the return of Dwayne De Rosario and the DC United team that he has challenging for the top spot in the East. DeRo has 2 goals and 7 assists, while Maicon Santos has 6 goals, and even Chris Pontius has added 5 goals. The pressure of opening a new stadium can put the home team at a bit of a disadvantage, and in this one I am going to have to pick the visiting DC United to rain on the Orange parade 2-1.

the rest of my previews and picks after the break.

Well after about 45 minutes of work my computer ate all my previews and picks so you get very short versions as I do this again.

Vancouver Whitecaps at New England Revolution - 5:30pm MT - MLS Live & Direct Kick

New England is good but can't win, Vancouver is back to winning but where is their offense? This one is a 1-1 draw

FC Dallas at Columbus Crew - 5:30pm MT - MLS Live & Direct Kick

Dallas is their own worst enemy with suspensions and injuries but even if they were half strength I think they are still better than a Crew team that is just not a very good team at this point. FC Dallas 2-1 winners.

Sporting Kansas City at Chicago Fire- 6:30pm MT - MLS Live & Direct Kick

Chicago is solid, Sporting needs to rebound after back to back losses, I think that means bad things are going to happen to the Fire. 3-1 Sporting KC.

Real Salt Lake at Seattle Sounders - 8:00pm MT - ABC 4, MLS Live & Direct Kick

Full match preview for this one coming soon, short version 1-1 draw.

New York Red Bulls at Philadelphia Union - Sunday 10:30am MT - ESPN2

New York has found a defense, the shame is when it plays defense they seem only to be able to score a single goal a match, but against the Union that is enough 1-0 New York wins.

Chivas USA at San Jose Earthquakes - Sunday 5:00pm MT - Galavision

Chivas used to be good on the road, but lately they have been bad everywhere, it will take something major for them to turn it around against a San Jose team that is playing very well. I am going with an upset (kinda) a 1-1 draw.

Sorry that those last ones were very short but I didn't have time to re-write them.
