So first let me say that as a Liverpool fan, the fact that they are playing in the USA (and Canada) is a very good thing. I also love that they have embraced the tour, check out their website dedicated to it. So I knew I had to make it out to at least one of the matches, and seeing as I didn't have a ton of vacation time available, I picked the July, 28th match featuring Liverpool FC vs. Tottenham Hotspur in Baltimore, MD.
I bought my tickets as soon as they went on sale and I will be sitting just off the midfield stripe and in the 6th row near the Tottenham bench, I went full out and paid a bit extra to get the VIP package which includes a pre-match buffet and unlimited beer (only in the VIP tent), so hopefully with a noon start time I will still be able to enjoy the match to its fullest.
Now had I been smart and booked my flight and hotel at the same time I got my tickets I could have gotten some good deals, but I waited and the prices went up and now most of the hotels near the stadium, and a lot of them downtown are either sold out or very expensive. No bother, I figured why not make the best of my delay and fly into Washington DC, stay there and do a bit of sight seeing and just take the train up for the match. So that is what I plan on doing. One upside to a noon start time is that now I have an option to add a second match to my trip, I am thinking about heading out to RFK stadium Saturday night to check out D.C. United vs. PSG. Since that match is a 7:30pm start time, the logistics shouldn't be a problem, but depending on how the first match goes it could be a double header.
So with my flights booked, hotels booked, rides to and from airports taken care of, it was down to the night before and that means packing. For me this is never an easy thing but even more complicated when you have to think of which LFC shirts, scarves, hats to take and when your collection features multiple options of each of those, well lets just say 45 minutes later that part of my suit case was packed and now all that is left is packing a few last items on Friday morning and off to the airport.
I will post an update when I get to Washington DC, look for it late on Friday evening. If you are going to the match add a comment and maybe I can find you and say hi.
