Ten-man RSL draw 1-1 in match marked by skillful Saborio goal

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake drew 1-1 with FC Dallas in an affair that saw the home side reduced to 10 men after fewer than 10 minutes and

Abdoulie Mansally was sent justly off in the 17th minute after rashly going into a challenge with FC Dallas's Jackson — colliding with him well above the knee in a strange scissors tackle. The force with which Mansally entered the challenge was far exceeding the necessary force, and even more frustratingly, was surely not necessary to keep a defensive shape.

Real Salt Lake's goal put them ahead in the 69th minute when Alvaro Saborio, picking up a flicked-on ball into the attacking third, found himself with three defenders around him and no teammates to speak of nearby. He found a bounce perfectly and put the ball into the left side of the net — a remarkable feat, considering he was as heavily marked as he was.

Kenny Cooper kept FC Dallas's hopes alive with a goal 10 minutes later after Je-Vaughn Watson took advantage of a counterattacking break, with his incredible speed taking him past Tony Beltran and into an excellent crossing position. Nick Rimando nearly caught Watson's ball across the box, but instead, he dove and it spilled right to Kenny Cooper, who finished without too much trouble.

Javier Morales was cautioned in the 69th minute for a foul, and as such will be forced to miss RSL's next match, an Oct. 18 fixture against Portland Timbers. Mansally will certainly miss the next match, but it remains to be seen if MLS Disciplinary Committee action sees him out for further matches.
