Yordany Alvarez tops the list of RSL players eligible for the first round of the MLS Re-Entry Draft, which is scheduled to take place Thursday.
He's joined by Khari Stephenson, Josh Saunders and Brandon McDonald on the list. McDonald was a summer addition from DC United and comes attached with a hefty salary considering his role with the team has been largely non-existent. Stephenson doesn't come with an excessive cap-hit, and Saunders is rather middle of the table.
If any of the four aren't selected, Real Salt Lake will be able to negotiate new contracts with those players. It remains to be seen whether Real Salt Lake will be interested in that, but with the salary cap ever more difficult to manage for a club with a core group of players worth retaining, it's obviously a difficult proposition.
Alvarez remains the biggest surprise, having been an important player for the club -- and with Kyle Beckerman a possible 2014 World Cup absence -- what Real Salt Lake does with defensive midfielder backups will be interesting.
