January wrap-up: Checketts sells, Morales re-signs, Findley returns and more

January was one of the busier months in recent Real Salt Lake history, so let's recap. From the sale of the club by its founder, to contract announcements, to the return of one of the club's storied strikers, take a look at the stories that have already started to shape 2013.

Jan. 3: Lovel Palmer officially signs with Real Salt Lake after being selected in the 2012 Re-Entry Draft.

Jan. 6: Tony Beltran is called into his first national team camp; Kyle Beckerman comes in as expected.

Jan. 9: Real Salt Lake's 2013 schedule is released, revealing only three scheduled national TV matches for the club.

Jan. 16: Robbie Findley signs with Real Salt Lake after being released by English club Nottingham Forest, where had spent the last two years.

Jan. 16: Nat Borchers is revealed to have undergone a surgery which will see him out during at least preseason and the early weeks of the season.

Jan. 16: Javier Morales re-signs with Real Salt Lake after months of speculation. He later revealed that he had offers on the table from La Liga club RCD Espanyol.

Jan. 17: Real Salt Lake selects John Stertzer and Devon Sandoval in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

Jan. 18: Alvaro Saborio captains Costa Rica in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana. They go on to win the tournament.

Jan. 20: Following in the footsteps of Nat Borchers, Chris Wingert is revealed to have undergone a surgery, missing preseason and at least the first weeks of the season.

Jan. 22: Real Salt Lake selects Brock Granger and Max Wasserman in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. Max Wasserman arrives at preseason, picks up an injury, and returns home.

Jan. 23: MLS and USL-Pro announce a partnership which will extend the MLS Reserves into the USL Pro schedule, promising further developments. RSL partners with first-year club FC Phoenix, though loosely.

Jan. 24: RSL founder Dave Checketts sells his shares in Real Salt Lake to co-owner Dell Loy Hansen, marking a new era for the club. Hansen promises increased resources.

Jan. 29: Kyle Beckerman captains the USMNT, while Tony Beltran appears in his first senior match.

Jan. 30: Joao Plata is announced as having signed with the club.
