Will Johnson scored a second-half header to give Real Salt Lake a win over D.C. United in a match stopped by lightning only minutes after kickoff.
Real Salt Lake's lineup that day featured six players who won't see the pitch tomorrow: Chris Wingert, Nat Borchers, Ned Grabavoy and Javier Morales will all miss the match, while both Will Johnson and Paulo Jr. have departed to other Western Conference clubs.
We could debate for hours about whether the referee should have let the match start, but he should be at least lightly applauded for at least stopping the match and protecting players and fans.
It was a remarkably action-packed match, considering the delay was rather substantial (over an hour!) and there were good chances for both sides. Of course, I'd tell you more, but you're better off just watching the highlights.
This match was the one during which the MLS 36 on Kyle Beckerman was filmed, too — if you can find that, give it a watch. They really should consider archiving those online somewhere.
