According to the newly released USL Pro schedule, Real Salt Lake's reserves outfit will play matches against Richmond Kickers, LA Galaxy II, and Pittsburgh Riverhounds in July - a marked change from the two-game series against Phoenix FC seen in 2013.
With the USL Pro-MLS partnership further coming to fruition in 2014, particularly with the formation of LA Galaxy II announced this week, Real Salt Lake will play the three sides, all of whom are MLS affiliates. Pittsburgh and Houston Dynamo are affiliated, as are Richmond and D.C. United, and the LA Galaxy connection is rather obvious.
July 6, 3 p.m.: RSL reserves travel to Richmond, Va., two days after facing New England Revolution
July 13, 4 p.m.: RSL travels to LA Galaxy; the match falls the day after the two face off in MLS
July 25, 5 p.m.: Real Salt Lake reserves host Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Rio Tinto Stadium
All USL Pro games in 2014 are set to be streamed on YouTube.
Rumors are currently circling about Real Salt Lake starting a USL Pro side in San Diego, with Garth Lagerwey confirming to Salt Lake Tribune reporter Chris Kamrani that it's a target for the club.
RSL GM Garth Lagerwey said the club is hoping to have a minor league team added to the franchise by 2015. Said San Diego is a target city.
