Real Salt Lake beat San Jose, secure playoff pass

RSL dominated in Sandy in a nice response win.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake needed to have a positive response after a disappointing loss on the road to Chivas USA. This game would prove challenging with a handful of starters missing for various reasons. There were back and forth chances for the first fifteen minutes and then RSL took over. Ned Grabavoy put a perfectly placed ball to the far post to open the account for the game. Shortly after, Sebastian Velasquez scores off of a corner kick and what a finish it was, with an even more excited celebration to be sure.

The second half was substantially less action-packed with fewer scoring chances but Real took care of business and secured the game. Jeff Attinella had a pretty uneventful night due to some good lockdown defense by Salt Lake. Kyle Beckerman and Robbie Findley each has a couple good shots but Jon Busch and his experience came up big a few times. RSL put the game to bed and punched their ticket to the MLS Playoffs.
