Real Salt Lake tested the keeper a few times to start the game but it became clear before long that Portland was under pressure to score and pushed forward more and more the longer the game went on. The best chances in the first half resulted from some good build up play by Morales but the Timbers defense came up big when they needed to in order to give themselves a chance to earn three points at home and potentially stay in the playoff race. There were chances on both sides but Rimando and Ricketts , arguably the best two keepers in MLS, both had nice saves.
In the second half we saw more risks being taken and Rimando and the RSL defense made the kind of stops that you like to see towards the end of the season in preparation for the MLS Playoffs. Rimando was clearly the player of the game with good decision making and some unbelievably quick reaction saves much to the detriment of Portland. Real Salt Lake had better possession play for the last 15 minutes of the game and weathers the storm in which the Timbers were throwing numbers forward. No goals came and RSL earned a nice point on the road due to their grit.
