When Carlos Salcedo was called into a Mexican under-21 national side in April, he had a chance to stake an initial claim for a spot in the 2016 Olympic team for his country.
With his third call-up of the year coming down yesterday, it's become an increasingly clear picture for the 21-year-old (he turned 21 just a few days ago, so this is a nice birthday gift).
Salcedo is young and raw, but he's shown undoubted quality in his first-team minutes this season. This call-up — and it's sure to not be anywhere near the last, at this level or, indeed, higher — speaks to that.
Exactly how much time Salcedo will be absent is difficult to say, but at least the Oct. 11 match against San Jose is likely to see the defender miss out.
And hey, he's scored his first MLS goal, which is a nice feather in his cap to go along with this achievement.
