Rimando, Gil called up for USMNT match against Ecuador

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando and Luis Gil are in the 21-man roster for the United States' match against Ecuador on Oct. 10 — a match more or less dedicated to Landon Donovan.

Rimando is joined by Bill Hamid and Brad Guzan, while Gil is one of six midfielders in the lineup.

Only a handful of MLS players were called in for this one: Hamid, Rimando, Omar Gonzalez, DeAndre Yedlin, Gil, and Donovan are the only MLS-based players on the list. Miguel Ibarra, who plays at Minnesota United FC, also made the roster.

The roster looks very much focused on young, promising players — and Donovan, of course.

The match against Honduras will see some roster changes; what exactly those are will be interesting if not entirely revealing.
