Player ratings: RSL 0-0 LA Galaxy in Western Conference semifinal first leg

There was plenty of solid play from RSL even though there was not a goal to show for it.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 6.5 Rimando was tested just a few times and he did the right things to keep the Galaxy from poaching a goal in Salt Lake.

Tony Beltran - 8 There was not much more that Beltran could have done to help his team against the Galaxy. He looked as good on the ball as he ever has and had his hands full with Landon Donovan. Admirable performance.

Nat Borchers - 7.5 Borchers stepped up at critical moments to shut down Robbie Keane, arguably the best player in MLS. There was a one-on-one situation in particular in which Borchers came out on top. Nice piece of work.

Chris Schuler - 7.5 Schuler returned and looked as if he did not miss a beat even with his month-long absence due to injury. He came in and played without hesitation, doing as much as anyone to shut down the Galaxy attack.

Chris Wingert - 5.5 Wingert had a couple of nice stops, but also gave the ball up a few times when more was hoped for.

Kyle Beckerman - 7.5 Beckerman was a huge part of a nice, cohesive defense. His passing, though, was what most impressed me. He passed as accurately from distance as I have ever seen him do. Unfortunately, the forwards were unable to convert.

Javier Morales - 6.5 Morales had a pretty good game and had some nice shots on goal, but could not break through the Galaxy defense as often as he is capable of doing.

Luke Mulholland - 6 Mulholland had a relatively quiet game, but did a nice job of getting on the end of balls to give RSL a bit more time on offense.

Luis Gil - 7.5 Gil brought a much needed spark to the game early on that woke up the team and the crowd. He excels pushing forward and creating, and he found a way to do that from the outside of the diamond.

Alvaro Saborio - 7 Saborio took a beating trying to hold up the ball. In that area, his touch was a bit heavy. But when he was making runs at the defenders, he looked really impressive and was able to create for his teammates.

Joao Plata - 6.5 Plata had a couple of nice shots that if placed a little bit better very well could have been goals. He put in the work and had a nice game though.
