Mansally continues at Real Salt Lake, signs new contract, Cassar says

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Abdoulie Mansally, 25, has re-signed with Real Salt Lake, RSL coach Jeff Cassar told ESPN 700 today.

Mansally, whose contract expired this year, had been in negotiations with the club, and his return being confirmed goes some way to provide defensive depth moving forward. It remains to be seen whether Mansally will be projected as a starter or whether he remains a backup left back.

Mansally joined Real Salt Lake in 2012 after being released by New England Revolution. He's never garnered serious minutes for the club, but he's served as a backup to Chris Wingert with frequency. His play started a bit shaky, but 2014 was perhaps his best year for the club. He had only a single yellow card and no red cards, and for a player for whom discipline was an issue, that's a big step up.

More details on the contract and other RSL news in the coming days.

Right, let's get back to our Wednesdays, shall we? All this news is making me light-headed.
