Real Salt Lake passes in second stage of MLS Re-Entry Draft

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

In what is the most surprising news of the day, Real Salt Lake passed (as did most teams) in the second stage of today's Re-Entry Draft. In other developments, water continues to be wet.

Real Salt Lake selecting a player was probably never on the cards, especially with Aaron Maund withdrawing from the re-entry draft today. It's one of the oddities of MLS that despite our ability to select our own players in this stage, a player can also withdraw and stay at the club. It's nice that Maund had that choice, and it's probably one of those things that is alright about MLS (and not somewhat terrible) and how players are treated.

We'll see if Maund remains at Real Salt Lake. Contract negotiations are underway, and while that doesn't mean he's coming back, it does solidify our team a bit.

For the record, we were certainly not the only team to pass. The only sides to select players were Montreal Impact, San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, FC Dallas, New England Revolution, and Orlando City SC.
