Morales doubtful for San Jose excursion; Gil likely to move up in his stead

Andrew Fielding-USA TODAY Sports

Javier Morales may be absent from tonight's match against San Jose Earthquakes, having been listed as doubtful in the most recent injury report with some sort of back problem.

His absence would be a blow for RSL, but not exactly damning. If he has indeed not travelled - there is no confirmation that this is the case - Luis Gil would likely step into his spot. Gil may have struggled in the last match, but he has showed well in Morales's stead in the past.

Other options might include, Sebastian Velasquez, but he is likely ruled out through a hamstring injury, and Jordan Allen, but he is perhaps behind others as options for the position.

if Gil does shift forward, it could leave Cole Grossman or Luke Mulholland in line for a start; it would be Mulholland's first for the club and certainly a reward for a strong preseason. Grossman is a sane option that might leave Grabavoy with a bit more attacking impetus.

It's not all negative, though: Clarence Goodson and Chris Wondolowski are both doubtful for San Jose, which could prove a slight relief to RSL's back line.

In other injury news, Chris Schuler didn't travel for the match, and we can expect an unchanged back line, with Aaron Maund continuing and Carlos Salcedo on the bench.
