RSL draw 1-1 against LA Galaxy in home opener punctuated by midfield strife

New, comments

Real Salt Lake played LA Galaxy to a 1-1 draw to open the season at home, with the match lacking significant excitement in the second half.

The lone RSL goal came from Alvaro Saborio, who finished coolly from a Joao Plata assist past Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Perk. Robbie Keane scored at the opposite side for Galaxy, capitalizing on space left to shoot by Chris Schuler.

Joao Plata, who had a good chance inside the opening minutes after darting past a static defense, was substituted in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Chances didn't come easily as the match progressed, with little creativity on display from either side. Luis Gil was perhaps a bright spot, skipping past the opposition with panache. Plata, too, was positive before being substituted.

Olmes Garcia never truly got involved in positive play, with the midfield finding it difficult to get things going. Luke Mulholland also entered, with Ned Grabavoy exiting later in the second half.
