Joey Dillon, a midfielder and Real Salt Lake's third-round draft pick, has signed a contract with the team, RSL Communications staff confirmed on Saturday.
Dillon was selected in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft (53rd overall pick) by RSL.
Prior to being drafted, Dillon was a four-year starter at Georgetown, starting 83 matches over the course of his college career. He had 1 goal and 4 assists in his time at Georgetown. In his senior season he was named to the All Big East first team as well as being named Big East Midfielder of the year.
The 22-year-old saw playing time in the preseason at both right back and at the defensive midfield spot. It is assumed that he was signed to provide a little more depth in the midfield for the time period that Kyle Beckerman could be gone for the World Cup.
Dillon's signing comes after first-round draft pick Ryan Neil was cut from the roster. Neil was subsequently signed by San Jose Earthquakes.
