Real Salt Lake has released full back and first-round draft pick Ryan Neil following the completion of preseason.
His departure frees a roster spot for midfielder Joey Dillon, who impressed during preseason preparations. Dillon fills a slightly more immediate need, but he will need to fight for minutes and a roster spot.
Dillon, a midfielder and Georgetown graduate, was RSL's third round draft pick this year. He showed himself to be a capable midfielder during preseason, fitting particularly well in the site of the diamond.
He is likely to sign a non-guaranteed contract, according to RSL communications Dad's fullback situation currently stands at four dedicated personnel, with Chris Wingert and Tony Beltran the obvious starters, and Rich Balchan and Abdoulie Mansally as backup options. Jordan Allen presents one further option at right back.
Dillon is the only remaining 2014 draft pick for RSL at the club following the release of Neil. Fourth round draft pick Daniel Jackson was released early in preseason.
