We already knew we were back in the US Open Cup, because thankfully, they don’t kick you out for losing in the final to the team that just couldn’t win.
But now, we know our first opponent, and if they look strangely like our opponent last year, there’s a good reason for that.
Atlanta Silverbacks — again, Eric Wynalda’s team — but this time, we’re going there. So I guess that’s fair.
Last time, we won 3-2 after extra time, which was fortunate, because we were a bit woeful. We saw goals from Kyle Beckerman, Devon Sandoval, and Khari Stephenson, with the latter two coming in extra time.
So, we’re back at it on June 14, right in the middle of two World Cup games. It should make for a fun evening, and if you happen to be in Georgia or thereabouts, you’re in luck. It’s not every day you get to see Jeff Cassar face up against Eric Wynalda. And frankly, maybe that’s a good thing for our mental health.
