Player Ratings: Attinella comes up big to preserve a point on the road

Jeff Attinella and Luis Gil show a lot of mettle on the road versus the Columbus Crew in the absence of various RSL players' absence.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Jeff Attinella - 8.5 Attinella came up with quite a few fantastic saves when you thought that the Crew were going to tie or pull ahead. You have to give as much or more credit to Attinella for this road point as anyone. As Cassar put it in the post-game, "You can just see that his confidence is growing and growing every week."

Abdoulie Mansally - 5.5 Mansally had a great play and a play that cost RSL two points on the road. He had a beautiful strike that the Crew keeper could not handle which led to Gil's goal on the rebound, but he also let Finlay get away from him which allowed Colubmus to level the score.

Carlos Salcedo - 6 Salcedo had a quite albeit effective game overall. There were a few Crew chances that very well could have been goals if not for Attinella that Salcedo could have done better on, but it was fun to see what could very well be the RSL center back pairing of the future.

Chris Schuler - 8 Schuler's performance was fantastic. He truly does solidify the RSL defense and provides leadership and stability when he is in the starting lineup.

Rich Balchan - 7 Balchan looks good when he is healthy and he could very well be a starter in MLS if he can keep up this kind of play. He is a great back up to Beltran and/or Wingert.

Cole Grossman - 6.5 Grossman had his best performance of the past three games in his role as defensive mid with Beckerman out. He defended well and looked somewhat improved in his passing on the offensive side of the ball.

Javier Morales - 6 I did not really think that Morales had a great night. He looked like he was lacking sharpness in those critical moments of the attack. On the other hand, he did do well to maintain possession and draw fouls.

John Stertzer - 6 Stertzer had a pretty quiet game, but he played his role well and had a nice showing for his first 90 minute game for RSL.

Luis Gil - 8 This game was a resurgence for Luis Gil. He looked sharp as could be on both sides of the ball and came up with a very difficult goal on the road. Now we have a nice competition on our hands with Gil and Mulholland.

Ned Grabavoy - 7 Ned showed tonight why he is valuable to this team. He was the prototypical guy that gets things done and allows his team to crank. The one knock on Grabavoy against the Crew was that he had a chance or two in the box with which he probably could have done more.

Olmes Garcia- 6 Garcia made some good connections with his teammates and kept the Crew defenders on their heels at times even though he was the only striker in the game for RSL. He played well with a tough task of going it alone up front.

Substitutes

Devon Sandoval - 5.5 Sandoval gave Columbus a headache or two, but really could have put more behind his opportunity on goal to close out the game.

Tony Beltran - 6 Gil came on and provided some calm on his side of the field. Unfortunately he can't play both sides of the field.

Luke Muholland - N/A
