Player ratings: RSL suffer first loss at home in 2014

Portland took full advantage of some RSL mistakes to get their first win against RSL in years.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Jeff Attinella - 6 It was a strange game for Attinella in which he came up with some big saves even though three goals got past him. His biggest error, however, was when he completely lost his composure towards the end of the game and his distribution resulted in a loss of possession multiple times.

Tony Beltran - 5.5 He had a nice showing before he got two yellows that really put RSL out of contention to get any sort of result. The first one was a smart, tactical foul but the second one was a huge mistake.

Chris Schuler - 6 Schuler was not the dominating force that he usually is. It looked like he had met his match against someone that has a similar build as him. Hopefully he learns from it.

Nat Borchers - 6.5 Of the defenders, it seemed that Nat had the best showing. He made some really important hustle plays in the first half that kept RSL out of trouble.

Chris Wingert - 6.5 Wingert did not have a bad game either, but not a standout performance by any means.

Ned Grabavoy - 4.5 That was not the kind of game one has grown to expect out of Grabavoy, although in fairness he rarely plays in the defensive midfield position. He uncharacteristically lost the ball more than a couple times under pressure. One of them led to a Portland goal.

Luis Gil - 7 Probably the best player on the field for Salt Lake, Gil looked like he is really coming into form. He was great defensively and good on offense. He looks hungry and that is a fantastic thing to see.

Luke Mulholland - 7 A nice goal from Mulholland with a two touch off of a corner deflection. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that he would have four goals (really five) I would have thought you were crazy.

Javier Morales - 5.5 We all know Morales is capable of more. I thought he got the ball into dangerous spots, but nobody from RSL was around to collect it. He also went down a bit too easy at times looking to get a foul. There were also times when he was at the top of the box and made one or two many moves that turned out to be ineffective.

Olmes Garcia - 6 Another tough shift, another game without a goal to show for it.

Joao Plata - 6 Great to have Plata back, but he looked a little rusty having just returned from injury.

Substitutes

Cole Grossman - 6 Grossman started to take some risks going forward which is good to see. Hopefully he continues that going forward. Unfortunately, he looked outmatched quite a bit.

Abdoulie Mansally - 5 A lot of effort to be sure, but he flubbed just as much. He botched a free kick and his touch got away from him a few times, more than is acceptable.

Devon Sandoval - 5.5 Devon had a hard time asserting himself, but in fairness, the game was already out of control.
