Rimando, Beckerman named to MLS All-Star Fan XI

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise, but Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando have been named to the MLS All-Star Fan XI.

Named by popular vote, Beckerman and Rimando won't necessarily be involved in the All-Star match. The team is being coached by the indomitable pretty miserable Caleb Porter, and while I wouldn't bank on bitterness from him about, well, the dominance of Real Salt Lake over Portland Timbers (except so far this year. Sigh.) playing a role in his matchday selection, you never really know what will happen.

So we've got our fan selection, but would it work if it was rolled out as a starting XI against Bayern Munich?

Maybe. The big issue? Two central defenders and one full back made the XI. Once again, MLS has trended toward three defenders in these popular vote things, and that's probably just as well, because who really cares about defenders? (Don't answer that. It's rhetorical.)

But really, the visage of Nick Rimando screaming at DeAndre Yedlin after he's been caught out of position, or getting after Omar Gonzalez for ball-watching? It's like a national team training session out there.

Or something.
