Player Ratings: RSL defeat Montreal Impact on Olmes Garcia resurgence, Morales creativity

Morales and Garcia connect twice to bolster each other's stat lines.

Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 7 Rimando had a nice save that preserved RSL's lead late in the game. We are still waiting for that record-tying shutout, but the goals that have got past him have not been his fault.

Tony Beltran - 6.5 Beltran did very well most of the night but also lost his man once or twice or was in the wrong place positionally a couple times.

Chris Schuler - 6.5 Schuler did not have a dominating game as we are used to, but he did really well to keep the Impact attack at bay.

Nat Borchers - 5 Borchers gave away a couple of balls way to easily and in really bad spots. He was in really good spots on set pieces and is unlucky not to have scored his first goal of the year.

Chris Wingert - 5.5 Wingert tried to slot the ball through to the forwards on multiple occasions and on most of those chances the ball was misplaced.

Kyle Beckerman - 7.5 Beckerman was very quick to make the right passes and was also unlucky not to have scored a goal. He took a crack late in the game that was very dangerous but unfortunately was saved.

Ned Grabavoy - 7 Grabavoy had the kind of game where if you watched him closely, was doing everything that RSL expects of him. He probably could have gotten into the attack and threatened a bit more, but he played very selflessly and allowed others to thrive.

Luke Mulholland - 7.5 Mulholland was very bright for the first two-thirds of the game before he kind of disappeared. His goal in the third minute was a beauty as he got all of his foot on it and Montreal did not have a chance to stop it. I also enjoyed his eclectic goal celebration. It looked like he didn't know which celebration to go with, so he went with all of them.

Javier Morales - 8 Morales assisted on both of Garcia's goals which in and of itself is very valuable to give Garcia confidence going forward. Nice game from Morales. The only critique I have is that he has not looked very sharp on his set piece kicks.

Robbie Findley - 6 Findley did his best to wear out the Impact defenders. He did not really have any good scoring chances but connected well with his teammates and spread the field while he was in.

Joao Plata - 6.5 Plata had a shot on goal or two but could not break the keeper down. He looks threatening every time he plays and is now a consistent worry for other teams.

Substitutes

Olmes Garcia - 9 Garcia did what we have all been waiting for - broke the goal-scoring drought and did it in style. He had two quality finishes and put the game to bed to get three very needed points for Real Salt Lake. That was a very happy Olmes Garcia.

Cole Grossman - 5.5 Grossman came on when RSL was still pushing and to Grossman's credit, he did not just sit back and defend. He was involved and active.
