RSL to host friendly against Xolos on Aug. 12

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake will host their first international friendly in what seems an age in a match pitting them against Club Tijuana — or, as we often know them, Xolos.

The match is already part of season ticket holders' packages (marked "Bonus Game A"). Those bonus game tickets were used in the past for the first playoff game and US Open Cup matches, but with RSL knocked out of the Cup early, there's at least something to watch now.

While there are obviously no indicators as to lineup — this is in just over a month, after all — the match falls between home matches with DC United (the preceding Saturday) and Seattle Sounders (the following Saturday.)

Xolos have a number of young Americans on their roster — Joe Corona the most recognizable name — which should render the match slightly more interesting.

But for a team that's been consistently on-board with the "trophies not friendlies" ethos, this one does come as a surprise.
