In a first seed versus second seed match that has been called a six point game by Real Salt Lake, they looked hungry from the opening whistle for this nationally televised game.
Luis Gil manned the top of the diamond with Javier Morales out due to injury/illness. Real had more than their fair share of scoring chances over the course of the first half coming within a couple feet of scoring a couple headers right in front of goal.
Seattle was relatively quiet on the offensive end with Schuler and Rimando keeping them at bay. RSL pushed to the last second of the first half but were unable to convert.
The second half opened up quite a bit after Plata of all people headed another goal in in two games with this one being assisted by Luke Mulholland.
Minutes later Luis Gil slotted a ball through in a tough spot to Mulholland and he notched one on slowly past Frei and RSL was suddenly up 2-0.
Seattle was able to pull one back after a chaotic sequence in front of Salt Lake's goal. Jeff Cassar made a couple defensive substitutions and took the wind out of Seattle's sails but for one dangerous ball that rolled across the face of the goal.
