It was a wild first half with Dallas putting themselves in position to force the referee to make decisions. FC Dallas players were playing on the edge of what is legal amd they got burned a couple times with a couple yellow cards, one on Perez for hitting Beckerman in the back then later for pushing in the box. Michel got a yellow for a studs up tackle on Joao Plata. Both teams exchanged scoring chances and Robbie Findley had a couple of good looks but his touch got away from him. Dallas was able to counter a couple times, but the RSL defense was able to thwart their efforts. The highlight of the first half was a controversial exchange between Chris Schuler and Blas Perez in the last minute of the half inwhich there was a physical battle for an aerial ball and when both players got up, Schuler pushed Perez. Perez had a hayday with it and was given his second yellow leaving Dallas with ten men. Schuler was given a yellow as well.
The second half started off with some fireworks when Dallas earned a corner early on and Je-Vaughn Watson was able to chest the ball after a very favorable bounce. Real salt Lake attacked but were largely ineffective not being able to make the final connection to score or misdirecting their half chances. Dallas pounced on RSL's inability to take advantage of the situation and Fabian Castillo put in the second goal for Dallas which secured the win against the odds. Garcia was able to get a consolation goal in the dying minutes, but it would not be enough.
