While we're all busy talking about one Argentine joining Real Salt Lake, another is probably busy thinking about his departure from the same club at the end of 2012.
Fabian Espindola, who played with Real Salt Lake for six seasons (with a bit of time here and there intermittently), looks set to play against the team that brought him to the United States. He's returning from a knee injury that's laid him up for two months, and to come back now, against a team he'll be particularly motivated against? It's a recipe for something or other.
Of course, it's not the first time Espindola's returned to face RSL, but it is the first time he'll have an opportunity to play at Rio Tinto Stadium since leaving. He played against us in 2013 and made himself into a bit of a pantomime villain with a move that he'd been fond of here, too. That dive in one of the more disastrous matches we've ever played — a 4-3 loss to New York Red Bulls that saw us down 2-0 and ahead 3-2. Depressing, no?
So let's hope for no diving, but when Espindola is roundly booed, we'll know why.
And, hey, while we're at it, what do you think of this penalty called against Abdoulie Mansally? Yeah, I wasn't a fan, either.
