Devon Sandoval loaned to Carolina Railhawks for two games

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Devon Sandoval has been loaned to Carolina Railhawks for a two-game spell, Real Salt Lake confirmed today.

The move comes only days after RSL newcomer and designated player Sebastian Jaime made his first appearance for the club, and Alvaro Saborio made his first appearance in over three months after suffering a metatarsal fracture.

Sandoval has been pegged as a long-term prospect by Jeff Cassar and Garth Lagerwey, but with Real Salt Lake's strike force solidifying, Sandoval was increasingly unlikely to earn minutes behind Saborio, Jaime, Joao Plata, Robbie Findley, and Olmes Garcia.

Carolina Railhawks next play against San Antonio Scorpions on Saturday, with a match against New York Cosmos following a week later. Both matches are at home for the Railhawks.

It's not the first time an RSL player has gone to Carolina to earn minutes, with Enzo Martinez landing there and indeed continuing there after leaving MLS and Real Salt Lake.

The move was first reported by Salt Lake Tribune reporter Chris Kamrani.
