Real Salt Lake's first-round draft pick (#16) was traded today to Seattle Sounders by route of former RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey
In return, Real Salt Lake received the 27th pick in the draft — Seattle's second round pick they received from Chivas USA — and "other considerations."
The move is a surprise after Cristian Roldan fell to RSL's #16 spot, where it was expected he may be picked., Generation Adidas midfielder and a creative midfielder who played under Real Salt Lake technical director Craig Waibel at University of Washington.
Real Salt Lake received allocation money in exchange for the 16th pick, as well as Seattle's second-rounder — which, given the rumors trickling down of the acquisition of 22-year-old Guatemalan center back Elias Vasquez, could be useful.
It remains to be seen who Real Salt Lake might be looking at with the 27th pick, but a number of quality midfielders remain available.
