Real Salt Lake selected University of North Carolina defender Boyd Okwuonu with the 6th pick in the second round of today's 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Okwuonu played at center back for UNC, but is also apparently more than capable at right back.
"I want to thank Real Salt Lake for picking me," he said in his post-selection speech at the draft. "I'm very blessed ... I've dedicated my life to putting it out on the field every day."
Real Salt Lake's defense is further bolstered with the addition of Okwuonu, and it's easy to imagine he'll be placed behind Tony Beltran at current. Okwuonu played for FC Dallas's academy but wasn't offered a homegrown contract by that club.
RSL received the pick from Seattle Sounders alongside allocation money in exchange for their first-round pick, which the Sounders used to pick Cristian Roldan.
This likely seals Real Salt Lake's draft contribution, with the club not having another second-round pick after trading it for Joao Plata to Toronto FC when he was acquired.
