Wellington Paeckart — or Pecka, as he's commonly known, has officially joined Real Salt Lake, according to a club-issued press release.
The move has been anticipated since late December, when SI reporter Liviu Bird broke the news. It was later confirmed by a Fort Lauderdale-area news outlet.
In the release, Real Salt Lake technical director Craig Waibel expressed his excitement at Pecka joining the club.
"Pecka is a very solid midfield presence. He is athletic, ultra-competitive and clean on the ball. He does a great job in the holding midfield role of breaking up passing lanes and finding options to connect the game," Waibel said. "I'm excited to bring him in. He gives us some depth for when Kyle Beckerman is gone on international duty and he's also a guy who can push at a couple other positions. He's also another guy who can be here a while and be effective for a long time."
Pecka, 25, will be with Real Salt Lake from the start of training camp, which starts shortly.
