Real Salt Lake is adding two college graduates to their preseason roster: David Abidor, a center back out of Creighton, and Luke Mishu, a right back from Notre Dame. The club has confirmed the two are being brought in.
Both players went undrafted in the 2015 MLS Draft.
David Abidor, a center back, expressed his excitement on Twitter earlier today.
Abidor was a senior transfer to Creighton, having played at Dayton before that. Following his arrival, he became an important part of the Creighton back line. Abidor also played with IMG Academy in USL PDL in 2014.
It remains to be seen whether Abidor is being looked at for Real Salt Lake's first team or for Real Monarchs, and it's certainly a long shot for him to make a final squad, with the first team well-stocked with defenders.
Luke Mishu, a three-year starting right back from Notre Dame, will be joining alongside Abidor. Mishu, Notre Dame's 2014 captain, had five assists at his right back spot in 2014.
TopDrawerSoccer rated Mishu as one of the top players remaining in the third and fourth rounds of the draft, but he went undrafted.
With only one natural right back on the team in Tony Beltran, Mishu may have a slightly greater chance to make the first team from the get-go. Boyd Okwuonu, RSL's second-round pick, has been tipped by technical director Craig Waibel as a potential right back option, but he is more naturally a central defender.
