Jordan Murrell, Real Salt Lake's third-round draft pick, has joined Real Monarchs, according to a report from Utah soccer blog Salt City FC following Monarchs' media day.
Murrell, a left back, joins a Monarchs group with only a few defenders on the roster. Marvin Baumgartner, Darion Copeland, and Riley McGovern are the three other rostered defenders. This makes Murrell the 14th player on the roster.
This comes only two days after Real Salt Lake had confirmed on Twitter that Murrell was "close to signing" with one of the two sides, and it makes a good deal of sense that he'd end up with Monarchs. After all, as a Canadian, Murrell would count as an international player in MLS, but as a domestic player in USL.
In a photo from Salt Lake Tribune reporter Chris Kamrani, Jordan Murrell is wearing a number 15 shirt — which, presumably, is his number for the forthcoming season.
