Player ratings: Beltran and Garcia stand out in the Desert Diamond Cup Final

Real Salt Lake defeated their Rocky Mountain rivals, the Colorado Rapids, in a tension filled preseason final. The Claret-and-Cobalt held the Rapids to one goal while the RSL attackers found the back of the net twice.

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Rimando - 7 The veteran goalkeeper made several critical saves and helped the squad maintain possession by handling the ball well.

Tony Beltran - 8 Fantastic clearance after clearance, an incredible engine, and once again he finds himself receiving high praise.  This veteran defender always found himself in the right place at the right time.

Jamison Olave - 6.5 The Verb erased some clear Colorado attacks that could have proven to be dangerous but had a scuffed clearance that lead to Colorado's goal.

Chris Schuler - 5 One of his rougher matches this preseason.  Several cheap give away under pressure made Schuler look off his game.

Abdoulie Mansally - 5.5 Several cutting runs into the attacking third and some great recovery runs into the defense, but the reserve left back found himself in some troubling positions against the Rapids.

Luis Gil - 6 Gil had a decent night and added an assist on the Garcia goal.  Nothing truly notable nor damning for the young U.S. International.

Kyle Beckerman - 7 The usual skipper.  Calming down play and dealing well with the pressure of his opponents, Beckerman looked like the league leading number six we all know and respect.

Javier Morales - 6 The maestro showed us the weaknesses of going away from the diamond.  He made several bad reverse passes that put RSL under pressure - one leading to the Colorado goal - but showed once again why he is one of the best set-piece takers in the league.

Sebastian Jaime - 5.5 Jamie had a quiet night despite starting the tactical offensive that led to Garcia's goal.

Alvaro Saborio - 4 The Costa Rican battled the Swedish jötunn (giant) Sjöberg well.  He battled physically but needed to be smarter after receiving an early yellow, which ultimately led to his sending off.

Olmes Garcia - 8 The young attacker had a standout first half leading to his high marks.  Garcia harassed the Colorado defense his entire time on the pitch and was awarded with an early goal off a great run.  After this performance expect the Colombian to have locked down the left winger spot in the season opener against the Portland Timbers.

Substitutions

Devon Sandoval - 7 The preseason standout did everything right playing as the lone man up-top for the 10-man RSL.

Luke Mulholland - 6 The midfielder came into to strengthen the 10-man RSL midfield.  Preformed his defensive duties well and made some good passes.

Jordan Allen - N/A The versatile young player made a cameo appearance after a fantastic preseason.  Allen challenged  the Colorado right back nearly making it past the last line of defense.

Honorable Mention

(Announcer) Brian Dunseth - The ex-RSL defender made a great Frank Underwood reference that reminded listeners to catch up with the latest season of the Netflix original series after the final whistle.
