Emilio Orozco, a California-born defender who was once contracted to Chivas USA, has signed with Real Monarchs, according to a club-issued press release.

Orozco, 22, has experience with United States youth international teams, playing at U-17, U-20, as well as with Tigres in Mexico before playing with Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He later signed at now-defunct Chivas USA in 2013. He made no MLS appearances in that time.

RSL goalkeeping coach Daryl Shore was head coach during Orozco's time at Ft. Lauderdale Strikers.

Orozco has already played with Real Monarchs, seeing time in the team's friendly against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC last week.

Orozco isn't the only signing Monarchs have made recently, with former University of Michigan player Tyler Arnone being officially announced today as well. Arnone will wear number 19; Orozco will wear number 20, according to the release.

This brings the Monarchs squad to 16 players, which seems a pretty natural stopping point. With six or seven Real Salt Lake players coming down intermittently for matches and a handful of academy players available for call-ups, it's hard to see too much movement from here on out.

Update: I'd forgotten that Waibel was at Michigan at the same time as Arnone, which adds another interesting connection. Thanks, Trey, for pointing that out.
