The best thing to overcome giving up the lone goal in the dying seconds of a match is a quick turnaround with a chance to make it all right.
That is exactly was the Real Monarchs are doing this week, with their match on Wednesday. The mid-week match isn't exactly what RMSLC probably needs, as they face the defending champs Sacramento Republic FC.
Republic FC brings a 4-3 record into Rio Tinto Stadium Wednesday, and will be looking to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to the Orange County Blues on their home field last Friday, but they are still at the top of the table in the west.
They also bring a familiar face with them, as former RSL man and Salt Lake City native Justin Braun will no doubt have a good showing in his home town. They are coached by former MLS player and head coach Preki, who has brought an MLS-type game to Sacramento.
The Monarchs played well in a hard fought 93 minutes of soccer Saturday in inclement weather versus LA Galaxy II, before a point slipped away in the finals seconds, as Galaxy II scored the go ahead goal. A few players saw their first minutes with the Monarchs last Saturday as goalkeepec Eris Osswald, youth academy player Danilo Acosta, and former academy standout Maikon Orellana.
The two teams square off Wednesday night at 7:00 PM at Rio Tinto Stadium, and will be broadcast tape delay at 11:00 PM on KMYU. A win would also be a great birthday gift for Fito Ovalle who celebrated his 18th birthday Monday.
