Real Monarchs will take to the pitch at Rio Tinto Stadium Wednesday night in their first home game of this their inaugural season. They will be looking to exact revenge against Portland Timbers 2 after their 3-1 loss in the Rose City over a week ago.
The Monarchs will be without the services of former BYU midfielder Garrett Losee due to his second yellow card and subsequent red card in the match versus T2. They will however have Emery Welshman back after being away on international duty with Guyana. Missing the first two matches, It will be the first time he will be suited up for the Monarchs.
Midfielder Coco Navarro scored the first goal in RMSLC history versus T2, and will look to add to that total at home. The midweek match also may allow the Monarchs to bring in some RSL players to help bolster the attack. Something they did not have in the last match up with RSL retaining extra players with starters missing due to international duty.
No doubt the Monarchs are excited to play in Rio Tinto Stadium, their home until a future stadium is completed in West Valley City. "It's awesome playing in an MLS stadium — it doesn't get better than this," defender Riley McGovern said about playing at the RioT.
The weather may put a damper on the first match Wednesday as rain is expected, and temperatures in the low 40's at kickoff. No doubt the weather won't effect the visiting T2 players, as the weather may make it feel more like at home for them. The action gets started Wednesday night at 7 p.m..
