Player Ratings: Real Monarchs 1 - 1 Portland Timbers 2

Lucas Baldin showed his class as the Monarchs continue to develop as a team.

Lalo Fernandez - 5.5 Not a bad night for Lalo.  He made some good saves but probably could have done more to prevent Fatawu from getting on the score sheet.

Jordan Murrell - 6.5 The left back had a great defensive showing.  Murrell broke up some good looking offensive moves from the Portland Timbers 2.  Rather quiet on the offensive front but did have some good switching of the play.

Phanuel Kavita - 6.5 Kavita did well in the Monarchs home opener.  The defender made some great defensive reads and stopped several passed that would have led to Portland breakaways.

Justen Glad - 5.5 The promising youth made history scoring the first goal at Rio Tinto for the Monarchs.  Glad could have been a bit sharper in defense losing position and conceding a goal.

Boyd Okwuonu - 6.5 Okwuonu was very active in the offensive half.  Not only did he deliver some dangerous crosses, but showed he has an amazing engine.

Fito Ovalle - 7 The Real Salt Lake loanee had some incredible distribution in the midfield.  Ovalle showed that he could definitely be a solid number six (defensive midfielder).

Lennon Celestino - 5 The late addition to the lineup struggled a bit.  Celestino lost possession more than any other member of the midfield three in the first-half but redeemed himself through good pressure on the opposition.

Lucas Baldin - 8 The skipper had an excellent night.  Not only showing why he is wearing the armband but also his skill on the ball.  Adding an assist in 70 minutes for the Monarchs is without doubt the most solid performance of the night.

Sebastian Saucedo - 6.5 The Utah native had a pretty solid night.  Not only did the youth create some solid offense, but he was also able to draw some fouls in good positions.

Ricardo Velazco - 6 Velazco made some great offensive moves.  Despite not being able to convert, the forward really did nothing wrong.

Eti Tavares - 5 A quiet night for Tavares.  Like Sebastian Jaime, the right winger will have to be more creative.

Substitutes

Pecka - 6 A good showing after an injury ridden couple of weeks.  Could have been sharper but did some good defensive work over his 45 minute appearance.

Riley McGovern - 5.5 McGovern created some good offensive pressure after Portland went down a man but he will have to learn how to take on defenders one-on-one.

Leon Brown - 6 Coming on with 13 minutes left in the match is no easy challenge but Brown did just what his coach would have asked him to.  Taking the fight to man down Timbers, Brown was involved in some good late game pressure.

Coco Navarro - 6.5  Similar to Brown, Coco really did all you could have asked in a late attack minded substitution.  He also had some good chances to convert in the dying embers of the match.
