RSL concede four goals to lose to Montreal

A very bad first half proved too much to overcome for Real Salt Lake.

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

There was not a lot of good to take away from the first half in Montreal for Real Salt Lake. Three goals were given up and it very well could have been four. On the first goal, Saborio lost his mark on Laurent Ciman on a corner kick. On the second goal, Nick Rimando was caught out of position and Andres Romero flicked the ball over him with three RSL defenders trying to chase him down. On the third goal, A ball went of the post and Tony Beltran did not keep track of Romero on the follow-up run and 29 minutes in it was pretty much a lost cause for the visiting team. In the 43rd minute, Elias Vasquez was called for another penalty in the second consecutive game for tugging Dominic Oduro down by his jersey. What initially looked like a Nick Rimando save was a ball that went off the post. Jamison Olave had a good chance at the very end of the half with a ball headed down that Evan Bush was able to save.

90 seconds into the second half, Luis Gil had a head of steam towards goal and was probably fouled but Devon Sandoval received the ball and put in an impressive left-footed curler past Bush to pull one back for RSL. A couple minutes later, A free kick was awarded to RSL when Jordan Allen was fouled on some nice combination play with Alvaro Saborio. Kyle Beckerman nearly put it in but Bush came up with another nice save. Jeff Cassar made some offensive-minded substitutions bringing on Sebastian Saucedo and Olmes Garcia, but the effort did not lead to more goals. In the 78th minute, a top heave RSL got caught on the counter and Elias Vasquez and Tony Beltran got caught out of position to give up the fourth goal of the game to Dilly Duka after Rimando deflected the ball. Luis Gil had a nice shot in the 87th minute to the far post that nearly went in but that was the end of RSL's chances and the game ended 4-1.
