Real Salt Lake hosts USL standouts Seattle Sounders 2 in the fourth round of the US Open Cup, and in doing so, they'll be aiming for a statement win in a valuable competition.
It could be a potentially tricky matchup, with the home side set to field a lineup without their their three most experienced center backs. Jamison Olave is injured, Chris Schuler is recovering from an injury (and close to a return, but not that close), and Elias Vasquez is away on international duty.
But with most of the rest of the team available, there's every reason to think Jeff Cassar could go with a first-choice lineup outside of the defense in a bit to simply outscore the opposition — and perhaps by a significant margin.
That would be the hope at least, with RSL struggling to find goals in recent weeks. It may soon be a confidence issue when it comes to finishing, which is far from an optimal position as the MLS season approaches its midway point.
Real Salt Lake plays again Sunday, when they'll host Sporting Kansas City.
