There was a clear sense of purpose and urgency from the home side from the beginning. A clear chance came off a set piece for Phanuel Kavita in his first MLS start but he hit it high.
RSL had quite a few good chances to score but their goal would come off of a beautiful executed free kick play with Luke Mulholland going to Kyle Beckerman who found Joao Plata who flicked it to Olmes Garcia who scored his second goal of the season. It was a beautiful play to behold. Unfortunately for Salt Lake, Tchani found an equalizer at yet end of the first half.
Nearly right out of the gates RSL took the lead again with Sebastian Jaime poaching a goal from behind the Crew defender when he was about to let the keeper have it.
The lead did not last too long with an RSL miscue on defense ending in a tying goal from Ethan Finlay. A couple of offensive minded subs gave Salt Lake some firepower until Jordan Allen was shown a red card for a studs up tackle leaving them a man down.
